Spinout Creation - Autumn 2026

In-person
14th October - 15th October 2026

This course is designed for knowledge exchange and technology transfer professionals with a working knowledge of research commercialisation who are looking to deepen their expertise in supporting and launching university spinouts. The programme will equip participants with the strategies, tools, and practical insights needed to guide spinouts from early-stage opportunity assessment through to post-formation success.

Participants will explore the full spinout journey, including business model design, financial planning, legal frameworks, team formation, and investor engagement. The course covers how to assess spinout suitability, manage founder relationships, attract talent, and navigate funding options ranging from venture capital to non-dilutive sources. It also addresses valuation, equity structuring, and the critical legal responsibilities of directors and shareholders.

Using interactive case studies, real-world scenarios, and expert-led sessions, the course builds practical confidence in supporting high-potential ventures. It also fosters connection with a broader innovation ecosystem, helping participants strengthen their strategic role in accelerating commercialisation and creating long-term impact from academic research.
