Accelerating Translation of Biodata to Impact Workshop
Accelerating Translation of Biodata to Impact is a workshop set to explore how biological data (health data and/or research data) can be translated to create value across open, hybrid, and fully commercial models. The Wellcome Sanger Institute is bringing together approximately 40 senior leaders and experienced practitioners from industry, academia, policy, investment, and funding organisations to share perspectives and experiences on the many pathways from data to impact in the life sciences. Through expert talks, panel discussions, and peer-to-peer engagement, participants will examine the full spectrum of data-to-product and impact pathways, from open science initiatives to emerging techbio business opportunities.
Key topics will include balancing open data access with the sustainability of data generation and sharing platforms, embedding principles of equity in the access and use of data for public benefit, understanding business models enabled by a data-first approach, fostering a dynamic ecosystem that can deliver impactful products and services from data, and exploring partnership opportunities emerging from new technologies and advances in predictive biology.
The workshop will address several critical questions:
- How can open data access be balanced with the long-term sustainability of data platforms?
- How can equity be embedded in the governance and use of data for global good?
- What business models emerge from a data-first approach?
- How can an ecosystem be developed that transforms biological data into impactful products and services?
- What new partnership models are emerging in the era of predictive biology?
To ensure a diversity of perspectives and experiences, participation is available by invitation or through selection via an open application process. Selected applicants based in low- or middle-income countries may apply for a bursary covering up to 100% of the costs of attendance.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and the application period may close early if all available places are filled.
