Business Development Manager: Manchester Metropolitan University

We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and commercially minded Business Development Manager focused on Knowledge Exchange. Our new School of Digital Arts (SODA) brings together creative and craft disciplines, technical and scientific skills, industry partnerships and global research, providing pioneering work at the intersection of storytelling, technology and innovation. Manchester Met is ranked at number 2 in the UK for ‘research power' in Art and Design (REF 2021).

Role

Joining a collaborative University-wide team of Business Development Managers, your role will focus on digital arts and supporting SODA, the Manchester School of Art Research Centre, and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities' broad range of related research specialisms. There are Research and Knowledge Exchange strengths in film, animation, UX design, photography, sound design, gaming, AI, art, design, fashion, architecture, media and more. Using your experience as a B2B Business Development Manager, you will:

  • Contribute to the achievement of the University's Knowledge Exchange activities and targets, with a focus on the specialisms of SODA.
  • Develop and support new opportunities for income growth from Knowledge Exchange: particularly contract research, consultancy, continuous professional development (CPD), and hire of facilities.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with business, public and third sector clients in the Creative, Digital and Tech (CDT) sector, to deliver CPD course targets related to SODA's grant funding.

It is important that you have knowledge and experience of working with funders of innovation and enterprise such as Innovate UK, or specialist funders such as the Heritage Lottery Fund and Comic Relief. Existing professional networks in the CDT sector would also be desirable.

Hybrid working is currently available for this role, and Manchester Met offers an excellent package including one the most competitive holiday entitlements in the region (35 days plus bank holidays). This full-time role is fixed term to 31st August 2024, and while we cannot provide any certainty at the moment, we are seeking to make the role permanent.

Please apply through the Manchester Metropolitan University jobs portal, and include a covering letter with your application explaining how you fit the criteria.

For an informal talk about the role, contact Clare O'Neill via clare.oneill@mmu.ac.uk.
