We are looking for applicants who can provide legal and commercial contracts advice to academic and research staff as part of the Contracts Team within University of Bath’s Research and Innovation Services. Currently, the Contracts team is made up of a Head of Contracts, Legal Advisor, 4 Contracts Officers and an administrator.

You will have responsibility for reviewing, drafting and negotiating formal, standard-type contracts with external funders and partners, ensuring that the University’s interests are protected and that an appropriate balance is achieved between benefits and risks to the University by agreeing acceptable contractual rights and obligations.

Applicants must be educated to degree level (a law degree would be an advantage) and have a sound knowledge of contract analysis and negotiation, plus experience of dealing with research-related contracts for or with a higher education or major research funding body.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrable ability to deal with a range of legal documents, paying close attention to detail, are required.

The ability to work as part of a team and a high level of organisational skills, in order to prioritise and manage a heavy and varied workload, are also essential.

The post is for 1 FTE (36.5 hours), though we would be willing to consider 0.8 FTE for the right person.  The position is to provide maternity leave cover with an expected end date of 30 September 2021 , or on early return of the post holder.

For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Jamie Whitaker, Head of Contracts, by email jw3477@bath.ac.uk.
