Head of EU and International Funding: University of Cambridge
The University is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to lead the dedicated EU and International team within the Research Operations Office, providing expert support to applicants and the broader University in securing and managing funding from the European Commission and key international funders.
The European Commission is a major funder of research at the University, with the ERC and Marie Curie schemes being particularly successful alongside the University's large portfolio of collaborative grants. Notwithstanding, the University aims to continue to build on these successes and also broaden and increase its funding from overseas sources to help maintain its position as a global research leader. As Head of EU and International Funding you will play a pivotal role in supporting the University's on-going success in these areas.
Building on work already undertaken, a primary objective of the role will be to undertake a thorough review of the current support structures in place within the team, with a view to planning and implementing any necessary changes to ensure the team is resilient, flexible, appropriately skilled, and able to provide the levels of expert advice and support to the academic and research-support communities. In order to ensure this is undertaken effectively, you will be required to demonstrate experience of managing change within a busy team environment.
You will possess a wide range of skills; from an ability to understand and shape effective and efficient administrative processes to provide optimal support to applicants and colleagues, to understanding complex and challenging funding landscapes, providing appropriate expert and strategic advice to multiple audiences within the University, and shaping systems and expertise in support of such. As an ambitious and dedicated leader and effective team player, you will have the opportunity to shape and lead a dedicated support team within a busy research support office, and engage with a research community of one of the world's leading and most prestigious research-intensive universities.
This challenging and rewarding role will provide you with the opportunity to:
1.Work within one of the most dynamic and varied research centres in the world; working and fostering close relationships with academics at the forefront of their fields;
2.Develop your business-relations skills, liaising with a wide range of colleagues, international sponsors, and collaborators, often at a senior level;
3.Further develop your effective management skills through managing a professional and dedicated team of managers and expert advisors;
4.Be at the forefront of developments within the international funded-research sector, frequently finding solutions to respond to new challenges.
You will have a relevant postgraduate qualification or an undergraduate degree with an equivalent combination of relevant experience, education/training with people management experience and significant experience in complex, international grant administration ideally in a university.
If you are well organised and self-motivated, can demonstrate a strong service ethic and positive attitude, can thrive under pressure and take pride in meeting your own and your team's objectives then we would love to hear from you.
