Life Science Innovation Manager

Drive life science IP deals, partnerships, contracts, and commercial innovation growth.

The Life Science Innovation Manager will provide direct support to the Head of IP Commercialisation and will work as part of the Commercial Innovation team within the Centre for Innovation Transformation and Improvement (CITI) on matters relating to Intellectual Property and commercial partnerships, with an emphasis on innovations relating to life sciences. The postholder will provide contractual support in the drafting and negotiating of agreements and provide business development activity to help capture IP development, commercial research collaborations, partnerships and consultancies with the Commercial Sector, University and government sectors and to be able to draft and negotiate contractual transactions for enabling Agreements to support CITI’s technology adoption pathway. The post holder may also be responsible for managing one or more IP and Commercial Research Managers and managing their work flow on a day to day basis.

The role requires a good level of expertise in all matters relating to IP to enable the postholder to provide appropriate advice and support to staff within the organisation who have queries regarding the identification, evaluation, protection and exploitation of intellectual property assets and non-IP assets such as data and samples, and work as part of a team to enable the postholder to provide the necessary level of support to the Head of IP Commercialisation and Associate Director, Commercial Innovation. The postholder is expected to represent the Head of IP Commercialisation in relation to work with other NHS bodies locally and nationally, as well as the commercial sector. The postholder will take the lead on their own projects, and be responsible for certain related financial management and IT administration activities, including management, curation and cleansing of the IP and contract databases, and conducting invoicing functions in line with a balanced budget. The post holder will have a focus on life science-related innovations, such as molecular diagnostics, genomics, cell and gene therapies and translation of novel biomarkers into healthcare solutions, complementing the Commercial Innovation team’s expertise. The post holder is expected to stay up to date with relevant regulatory and business matters relating to this subject matter. However, the post holder will not exclusively manage life science projects and it is anticipated that they will be required to support innovation projects from other fields as needed.
